Worthing Judo Club hosted its 2nd year of the Senior Invitation Championships on Sunday 7th May.

With clubs attending from as far as London and Brighton, it proved to be a great success once more.

Everyone commented on the larger area provided by the extra mats the Judo club had purchased stating how much smoother and quicker it made the competition run. Along with a fresh new Podium and many other additional elements it truly was a professional effort and enjoyed by all.

A fantastic turnout made for some exciting pools and the Judo contests themselves were very well fought. Traditional Kodokan Judo at its Best!

The day was attended by our President Sensei Sampson Sampson 8th Dan who assisted in presenting the awards.

Special Awards of the day were presented to Sophie Ali ( Best Technique) with a beautiful Ogoshi and Dan Chiddy ( Best Technique) with a fantastic Uchi Mata. A further award went out to Saad Sid who won an award for the best overall judo on the day following his gold medals in the mens Dan grade and the mens open categories.

Chief Instructor of Worthing Judo Club, Chris Cooper said “ This year’s competition has been a great success and enjoyed by all. Every year it has grown and next year we will aim for bigger and better than before. The only way is ‘up’ for our Club. I am very proud of all the contestants and would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make this such a success. From setting up the day before to clearing away on the day, along with the continued support we receive from Mark and Ian Haggart at Davisons leisure Centre, we couldn’t do it without them!”
